1. Who this policy covers
This policy describes personal information handled when you browse Hushed Chat, sign in, create characters, exchange AI messages or purchase membership. Read it alongside our Terms of Service.
Hushed Chat is the operator responsible for this information, with its registered address in China. Our service is intended for users outside mainland China. Contact us about this policy at [email protected].
2. Information used by the service
- Identity and eligibility: account identifiers and sign-in details managed through Clerk, such as your email and authorized profile information. Account setup submits a birth date for age verification, an adult declaration, language and time zone.
- Content: messages, character descriptions, stories and profile information you submit to online features. This can include personal information you choose to put in a conversation.
- Billing: product selection, order references, payment status and subscription entitlements. Card entry takes place in Stripe’s hosted checkout.
- Device storage: drafts, preferences, saved items and cached conversation data kept in your browser.
- Technical information: network requests necessarily expose connection information such as IP address and browser headers to the servers receiving them.
Provide only information needed for the feature you use. Avoid including passwords, payment credentials, health records or another person’s private information in prompts.
3. Why information is processed
Account identifiers connect you to your account; submitted content enables saved conversations and generated replies; billing information establishes access to paid features. Preferences and browser caches help restore your workspace.
Where data protection law requires a legal basis, processing necessary to supply requested services relies on performing the service agreement. Applicable legal obligations may require financial records and responses to lawful requests. Security processing may rely on legitimate interests, subject to the rights and balancing requirements of applicable law. Optional processing that requires consent must be separately authorized.
4. Cookies and browser storage
Authentication services may use cookies or equivalent session storage to keep you signed in. Hushed uses local browser storage for drafts, display preferences and cached data. Guest data and signed-in account data have separate browser storage areas.
You can manage cookies through your browser and export or clear the current workspace in Settings. Blocking storage may prevent sign-in or saving. Signing out does not erase browser data, and clearing local data does not delete cloud records or cancel a subscription.

6. How long information is kept
Browser data stays on the device until cleared, overwritten or removed by the browser. It can remain after sign-out. Online account records, conversation history and billing records follow separate retention and deletion processes.
Account information and saved conversations are retained while needed to provide your account and the history you choose to keep. You can request deletion by email. Support records are retained as needed to resolve your request and related disputes; security information is retained as needed to investigate and prevent abuse. When these purposes end, information is deleted or anonymized unless a legal obligation or unresolved dispute requires continued retention.
Financial records may need to remain for applicable tax and accounting periods. Backup copies can remain until their normal replacement cycle and are restricted from ordinary use. Canceling a subscription does not initiate account deletion. Contact us to learn which retention requirements apply to your records.
7. Keeping information secure
Protect access to your account and device, especially on shared computers. Browser exports can contain private conversations, so store and share them carefully. No online service or storage method can guarantee complete security.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information and limit access to the purposes described here. We will assess security incidents and notify affected people and authorities where required by applicable law. Report suspected issues to [email protected].
8. Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may request access, correction, deletion, a portable copy, restriction of processing or object to certain uses. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw that consent. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Settings lets you export the current device’s workspace and clear its local data. These actions do not constitute a full cloud-data export or an account deletion request.
Send privacy requests to [email protected], ideally from your registered email. Tell us which right you want to exercise and identify the relevant account or data. We may verify your identity before disclosing or changing records. We respond within the period required by applicable law and explain any lawful extension or refusal. You will not be penalized for exercising your privacy rights.
9. International processing
Hushed Chat operates from China and serves users outside mainland China. Your information may be processed in China and in other countries where our service providers operate. These countries may have different data protection laws from your country of residence.
Where a transfer is subject to legal restrictions, we will use the safeguards required for that transfer, such as approved contractual protections or another permitted legal mechanism. Contact [email protected] for details of destinations and safeguards applicable to your information.
10. Adults only
Hushed is intended for adults aged 18 and older. People under 18 must not create an account or submit personal information. Suspected underage use should be reported to [email protected]. If we learn that a person under 18 has provided personal information, we will take steps to remove it and restrict the account as appropriate.
11. Updates and contact
Policy changes will be reflected in the date above. Material changes require an appropriate service notice and, where legally necessary, additional consent. External websites and providers have their own privacy notices.
